NiceLabel does not start because of insufficient user rights

Problem

When you start NiceLabel software for the first time, you can see the following error messages:

Application cannot start because of insufficient user rights. Check the user permisions.

or

The error occurred during startup procedure!
The error description: Application cannot write to the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\EuroPlus\NiceLabel\System folder. Please contact your system administrator to change the access permissions.

NiceLabel software has majority of the files installed under 'Program Files' structure. There are two main folder branches:

C:\Program Files\EuroPlus\NiceLabel
C:\Program Files\Common Files\EuroPlus Shared

Note: if you have 64-bit version of Windows, then look in the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\...

The access requirements for these folders are read only mode.

But NiceLabel software needs to have write access to a location on the disk where log files are being written, where user-related data is stored etc. The location of this folder on the disk is:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\EuroPlus\NiceLabel\System

Note: if you have newer Windows, see this folder: C:\ProgramData\EuroPlus\NiceLabel 6\system

All users running NiceLabel software must have full access permissions to this folder. Not just 'read' and 'write' but also 'delete'.

Solution

SOLUTION 1

To resolve the problem, you must set full access permissions to this folder for each user running NiceLabel software. Contact your system administrator, if you are unable to change the access permissions.

Follow these steps to change the access permissions:

  1. Open Windows Explorer.
  2. Select Folder Option from the Tools menu.
  3. Go to View tab.
  4. Enable the option Show hidden files and folders.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Browse to the following folder:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\EuroPlus\NiceLabel\System
    or
    C:\ProgramData\EuroPlus\NiceLabel 6\system.
  7. Right-click the System folder and select Properties from the menu.
  8. Go to Security tab.
  9. Click the Add button.
  10. Enter your username then click OK.
  11. Select the username you have just added to the list.
  12. Enable the option Full Control for Allow property.
  13. Click the Advanced button.
  14. Enable the option Replace permission entries on all child object with entries shown here that apply to child objects. (This option will apply the added full permissions to your username not only on the System folder, but also on all files within the System folder.)
  15. Click OK.
  16. Start NiceLabel again.

SOLUTION 2

The database users.mdb might be corrupted so NiceLabel cannot access it.

In this case reinstall the NiceLabel software.
